Senior UX Designer

We are looking for a passionate design leader to help envision and create the next generation of search experiences.

About Search.io

Most people engage with 10+ different search technologies every day. Yet, the majority of search experiences fall well short of the expectations set by Google and Amazon.

We’re here to change that! We’re on a mission to enable every organization to build smart search and discover experiences.

Search.io (formerly Sajari) is an AI-Powered Site Search and Discovery platform, enabling customers to create great search experiences for their websites, e-commerce stores, or apps. Built from the ground up with machine learning at its core, Search.io empowers developers to build smart search solutions in days, not months.

Even though we are still an early stage startup, it’s likely that you have already used our search. We power the experience of large companies and governments around the globe, including nsw.gov.au, canva.com, catch.com.au, unity.com, sennheiser.com, and lockheedmartin.com.

Why Join Search.io?

  • Get in early at one of the most promising startups in Australia.
  • Join a tech company that values a healthy work/life balance while getting things done.
  • Get a years worth of experience in three months.
  • Join an extremely talented team of individuals coming from Atlassian, Google, Facebook, Freelancer…
  • Help shape the user experience for one of the most impressive technology products coming out of Australia.
  • Summer hours! During December, January and February we finish up at lunch on Fridays to enjoy long summer weekends.
  • You won’t sit all day in (Zoom) meetings, we like to get things done.
  • Competitive salary with equity (stock options).

What you’ll be doing

An average day may include some of these:

  • Build customer empathy. We want the product to speak for itself. But to do that, it needs to speak the language of our customers. Your job is to understand their challenges and needs, and translate it into delightful product experiences.
  • Research and user testing. We set big, ambitious goals at Search.io. To ensure what we are building moves us closer to reaching our goals, we must learn quickly, fail fast. You will conduct user research/testing and synthesize results into actionable insight to validate designs.
  • Create a cohesive experience. Own and evolve the design system and enable the product team to create a cohesive experience.
  • Build prototypes. A pictures says more than a thousand words. A prototype says more than a thousand pictures. To help communicate and visualize experiences, you will create prototypes to share with stake holders and customers.
  • Inspire. Take your team on a journey. Ensure they understand why we are doing what we are doing. Inspire them with customer stories, designs, prototypes… or interpretive dance if that’s your thing.
  • Seek to learn. Whether it’s learning from our customers, co-workers or peers in the industry. You always strive to do better every day and look for opportunities to improve our processes and products.

What you’ll bring

  • User testing and research experience.
  • Both qualitative and quantitative research to help gain the customer and stakeholder insights necessary for building a great experience.
  • Empathy. UX designers must be able to challenge their inner personal biases and ensure that they are designing for their end user and their pain points, not for themselves.
  • Prototyping skills. Building low/high fidelity prototypes to communicate and test ideas quickly.
  • UX experience. What are industry best practices and common UX patterns? Knowing basic information architecture best practices and how to apply them will help you answer these questions and get started on a design.
  • Communication, collaboration and teamwork. You are great at getting your ideas across and are open to feedback and constructive discussions.
  • Tools of the trade. You are a master user of industry tools such as Figma, Sketch or Invision. That way your focus is not on how, but the why and what.
